Teisha Brown is one of the founders of Power of Paint Art Academy & Management. She is a Licensed Psychotherapist in Pennsylvania, with grief & trauma specialities. She is trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) therapy and incorporates a range of evidenced-based practices into Power of Paint's curricula. Her educational background includes a B.A. in Psychology from Chestnut Hill College, and a M.A. in Professional Clinical Counseling from LaSalle University. She is currently working on her MBA at Delaware Valley University and has a certificate of organizational leadership from Bryn Mawr College-Nonprofit Executive Leadership Institute. Ms. Brown currently serves as the organization's Executive Director. Additionally, she functions as our in-house psychotherapist who facilitates various groups. Her prior experience as a Social Worker, Residential Therapist, and Direct Care worker, gives her a valuable perspective to working with children, youth, their families, and the host of challenges they face.
Ms. Brown originates from Jamaica and moved to America in her late teens. As a West Indian, she values honesty, integrity, individuality, hard work, creativity, education, family, free expression, and community. Ms. Brown has incorporated her passion for talk therapy with expressive means as a way of promoting a safe space for participants to create, share, and form meaningful bonds. Although she mainly handles our behind the scene operations and therapeutic aspects, she often doubles as an instructor and regularly engages with customers. Her hands on approach, core values, dedication to our cause, and compassion for our students are what makes Ms. Brown an incomparable asset to the organization.
With the understanding that no single approach is the right one for every individual, Ms. Brown utilizes various modalities in her practice and approach individuals from a holistic and person-centered framework. As a result of her eclecticism, she uses Cognitive Behavior Therapy, EMDR, Holistic/Integrative Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Expressive Arts Therapy, Solution-focused Brief Therapy, and Narrative Therapy to move individuals forward in their healing journey. She has worked with various populations to address trauma, grief and loss, relationship issues, behavior modification, inner child issues, substance abuse, parent-child interactions, mental health symptoms (such as anxiety and depression), abandonment, anger, stress, identity disorders, personality disorders, and self-esteem, among others. Her experiences and approach allows her to cultivate a program at Power of Paint that addresses many of these issues, and more. Additionally, Ms. Brown possesses a vast array of skills, including coding & web applications, web development, monitoring, and marketing that help to inform our art, technology, and mentoring programs.
