Teisha Brown is a visionary founder and the Executive Director of Power of Paint Art Academy & Management, where she merges clinical expertise with creative expression to promote healing and community empowerment. A Licensed Psychotherapist in Pennsylvania, Ms. Brown specializes in grief and trauma and is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. She integrates a broad range of evidence-based and expressive modalities into Power of Paint’s innovative, trauma-informed curricula.
Ms. Brown earned her B.A. in Psychology from Chestnut Hill College and an M.A. in Professional Clinical Counseling from La Salle University. She is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and a second Master’s in Human Sexuality, reflecting her commitment to lifelong learning and holistic care. She also holds a Certificate in Organizational Leadership from Bryn Mawr College’s Nonprofit Executive Leadership Institute.
Drawing from her diverse background as a Social Worker, Residential Therapist, and Direct Care Worker, Ms. Brown brings deep compassion and insight to her work with children, youth, and families. Through her leadership, Power of Paint continues to serve as a bridge between art, mental health, and community resilience, empowering individuals to transform pain into purpose and creativity into change.
Ms. Brown, originally from Jamaica, moved to the United States in her late teens. As a proud West Indian, she upholds values of honesty, integrity, individuality, hard work, creativity, education, family, free expression, and community - principles that deeply inform her leadership and therapeutic approach.
Blending her passion for talk therapy with expressive arts, Ms. Brown creates safe and nurturing spaces where participants can heal, create, share, and build meaningful connections. While she primarily oversees operations and therapeutic programming, she also frequently steps into the role of instructor, engaging directly with participants and community members.
Her hands-on approach, unwavering dedication, and genuine compassion for students make Ms. Brown an invaluable force within the organization - one whose vision and heart continue to inspire growth, healing, and transformation through art.
With the understanding that no single approach fits every individual, Ms. Brown draws from a variety of therapeutic modalities, approaching each person through a holistic and person-centered framework. Her eclectic approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodymanic, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Holistic/Integrative Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Expressive Arts Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and Narrative Therapy - all tailored to support individuals on their unique healing journeys.
Throughout her career, Ms. Brown has worked with diverse populations to address trauma, grief and loss, relationship challenges, behavioral concerns, inner child healing, substance use, parent-child dynamics, and a wide range of mental health symptoms including anxiety, depression, anger, stress, identity, and self-esteem issues. Her comprehensive understanding of these areas has informed the development of Power of Paint’s trauma-informed, resilience-building programs, ensuring that creative expression and emotional wellness remain at the heart of the organization’s work.
In addition to her clinical expertise, Ms. Brown brings a unique combination of technical and creative skills, including coding, web development, digital design, and marketing - which enhance Power of Paint’s art, technology, and mentorship initiatives, bridging innovation with community impact.
