Vanessa is a Founder and Chief Operating & Impact Officer of Power of Paint Art Academy & Management, where she helps transform the organization’s vision into meaningful programs, experiences, and community impact. Combining creativity, operational leadership, and a lifelong passion for the arts, she plays an integral role in shaping how Power of Paint engages, inspires, and creates opportunities for youth and families.
Growing up between Brooklyn, Philadelphia, and Baltimore, Vanessa discovered the power of art at an early age. While much of her childhood focused on learning how to navigate and overcome challenging environments, her Nana and kindergarten teacher recognized and nurtured her artistic abilities. Through museum visits, sketchbooks, encouragement, and proudly displaying her artwork, they helped her see creativity as something worth developing and celebrating.
Those experiences continue to influence her work today. As a founder of Power of Paint, Vanessa is passionate about ensuring young people have access to the encouragement, exposure, and opportunities that can help them discover their own talents, passions, and possibilities.
Vanessa is also a certified trauma-informed instructor, bringing an understanding of how life experiences and adversity can influence behavior, learning, engagement, and emotional well-being. This training helps guide her approach to creating supportive, inclusive, and empowering environments where young people can feel safe to explore, express themselves, and grow.
Travel, culture, history, and the stories of people and communities are among Vanessa’s greatest sources of inspiration. She enjoys exploring new places and using art as a way to celebrate cultural experiences, preserve history, and bring meaningful stories to life.
Through Power of Paint, she works to create environments that are fun, motivating, educational, and empowering, giving young people opportunities to explore creativity while building confidence and expanding how they see themselves and the world around them.
Her work reflects a simple belief: sometimes one person recognizing your potential can change the direction of your life, and every young person deserves that opportunity.
Vanessa is a multidisciplinary artist who works with acrylics, oils, graphite, charcoal, pastels, and other creative mediums. She believes creativity should not be limited to one style or form, allowing each idea to develop through the medium that best brings it to life.
This same philosophy influences her leadership at Power of Paint. She values exploration, innovation, and giving participants the freedom to discover how they express themselves best.
As Chief Operating & Impact Officer, Vanessa also helps ensure that Power of Paint’s creative vision translates into strong programs, effective operations, and meaningful outcomes. Her artistic experience and trauma-informed training also help shape how programs are delivered, ensuring creativity, emotional safety, participant engagement, and positive youth development remain central to the experience.
